Economic Calendar and News
Local economic data coming up extends to retail sales for September, private sector credit, housing finance approvals, and international trade.
Several overseas central banks will meet this week to discuss monetary policy, including the U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, and the Bank of Japan.
US Federal Reserve’s Decision: The US Fed is tipped to hold its benchmark federal funds rate steady in a range of 5.25% to 5.5%.
US Jobs Report: Also in the US, investors will closely monitor the latest jobs report.
Further afield, the Eurozone will publish its gross domestic product (GDP) and inflation readings on Tuesday.
Stocks on Watch
US earnings season reaches a climax, with Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) capping off the tech sector, with other results on the way from McDonald’s (NYSE: MCD), Pfizer (NYSE: PFE), PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), and Airbnb (NASDAQ: ABNB), among others.
Middle East Tensions and Gold Prices: As observers grow uneasy about the unfolding situation in the Middle East, gold prices pushed above US$2,000 per ounce, bringing names like Northern Star Resources (ASX: NST), Evolution Mining (ASX: EVN), and Perseus Mining (ASX: PRU) into the spotlight.
Days after Exxon (NYSE: XOM) and Chevron (NYSE: CVX) shares fell in response to a sharp decline in earnings, the oil sector remains on watch as oil giant BP (NYSE: BP) reports, and with crude oil futures pushing higher.
Among a host of annual general meetings scheduled for the week ahead, arguably none will be watched more closely than those of Qantas (ASX: EDV) and Endeavour Group (ASX: EDV), where protest votes are likely against executive remuneration and shareholder activism pushes for Board rejuvenation.
